Download Router privacy policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
Download Router is a browser extension that saves downloaded files into subfolders of your Downloads folder, based on rules you set.
What it collects
Nothing. Download Router has no server, no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The developer receives no information about you or your downloads.
What it stores on your device
Using the browser's local extension storage, Download Router keeps:
- your rules and settings
- a list of the 30 most recently handled downloads (file name, folder, rule name, time), shown in the toolbar popup
- a count of how many downloads it has sorted
This data never leaves your browser. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.
What it reads
When a download starts, Download Router reads the file's name and type to decide which folder it belongs in. This happens entirely in your browser.
Network activity (Firefox only)
Firefox doesn't let extensions choose a download's folder in advance. So in Firefox, Download Router asks the same website for the same file a second time, saving it into the right folder, and then removes the first copy. That request goes only to the website you were already downloading from. Download Router makes no other network requests, in any browser.
Permissions
- downloads: to choose where each download is saved and to open the Downloads folder from the popup
- storage: to keep your rules, settings and the recent-activity list on your device
